If you want a chilled out break or a touch of Mediterranean magic, you can reach some of our most popular LGBTQ-friendly destinations in just a few hours from the UK.

The Greek Island of Mykonos has had a long and colourful LGBTQ history, welcoming thousands of visitors every year to gay clubs, bars and restaurants. For a holiday with some extra fun, head to Xlsior festival in August, a celebration of gay pride and great music.

Ibiza is well-known as being a party hotspot in the Med, but it’s also considered one of the top European gay hotspots. Ibiza Town is the place to go during the summer months, home to some fantastic events, which attract thousands of gay clubbers looking to party the night away. 

Other good gay friendly options are Sitges, Spain and Tel Aviv.  

Gran Canaria is home to a thriving nightlife in parts like Playa del Ingles, where you can find the Yumbo Centre. There’s a lively, welcoming drag scene here, which attracts all different types of people. There are two Gay Pride Festivals every year, so make sure you catch one, in either May or November.

You may know Malta as being a traditional holiday hotspot, but it’s also a favourite destination for LGBTQ travellers. This homely island offers a warm welcome to anyone visiting its beautiful shores. As well as the friendly atmosphere, there are thousands of years of history, sparkling sea and soft, sandy beaches.

For something a bit further afield, one of our long haul destinations may be the perfect place for a getaway.

If you love bright lights and big cities, why not tie the knot or have a holiday in the concrete jungle that’s New York? There are serene spots like Central Park to exchange vows, before bringing the real party to The West Village afterwards to celebrate your special day.

For something even more exotic, it has to be Thailand. Phuket, the largest island in the country, is paradise on earth, with sugar-sand beaches fringed with tropical jungles and turquoise seas. Of course, no visit to Thailand would be complete without experiencing the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, considered the gay capital of the world.
